Fiber quality

• Manufacturing cotton fibers in the lab is currently not viable since they don't reach the minimum 3 cm required for yarning
• Compared to fibers grown in vivo, submerged fibers were found to have a finer diameter, and being half as long, which results in a shorter maturation term

Hypotheses

• Overexpress GhHOX3 in cotton trichomes **through genetic engineering techniques such as CRISPR
• Inject bacterial cellulose while the fibers are growing
